Submission Preparation Checklist

As part of the submission process, authors are required to check off their submission's compliance with all of the following items, and submissions may be returned to authors that do not adhere to these guidelines.
  • The submission has not been previously published, nor is it before another journal for consideration (or an explanation has been provided in Comments to the Editor).
  • The submission file is in OpenOffice, Microsoft Word, or RTF document file format.
  • Where available, URLs for the references have been provided.
  • The text is single-spaced; uses a 12-point font; employs italics, rather than underlining (except with URL addresses); and all illustrations, figures, and tables are placed within the text at the appropriate points, rather than at the end.
  • The text adheres to the stylistic and bibliographic requirements outlined in the Author Guidelines.

el-Noorda: Interdisciplinary Journal of Quran and Hadith

General Information

el-Noorda is a peer-reviewed, open-access academic journal that publishes original and high-quality research on the Quran and Hadith using critical, interdisciplinary, and contemporary approaches.

Manuscript Scope

Manuscripts should align with the journal’s focus on Quran and Hadith studies, including (but not limited to): interpretation, criticism, hermeneutics, methodology, law and governance, ethics, gender, environmental studies, digital humanities, and comparative Islamic scholarship.

Manuscript Preparation

  • Language: English (preferred) or Arabic (selective)

  • Length: 6,000–8,000 words (including references)

  • Format: Microsoft Word (.docx)

  • Font: Gill Sans MT, 12 pt

  • Spacing: 1.5

  • Margins: Standard A4

  • Abstract: 150–250 words (English), followed by 3–5 keywords

Citation and References

  • The journal applies the APA (American Psychological Association) Style, 7th Edition.

  • In-text citations must follow the author–date system, e.g. (Saeed, 2020).

  • The reference list must contain at least 30 references, with a minimum of 40% from peer-reviewed journal articles, preferably published within the last 5–10 years.

Plagiarism Policy

All submissions must have a similarity index of less than 15%, excluding references, as verified by plagiarism detection software.

Peer Review Process

All manuscripts are subject to a double-blind peer review process. The editorial board reserves the right to accept, revise, or reject submissions based on reviewers’ recommendations.

Publication Fee

el-Noorda applies a NO APC (Article Processing Charge) policy. Submission and publication are free of charge.

Authors who submit manuscripts to el-Noorda: Interdisciplinary Journal of Quran and Hadith agree to the following copyright terms as part of the submission process:

    Authors retain the copyright of their work and grant el-Noorda the right of first publication.

    Articles published in el-Noorda are distributed under the Creative Commons Attribution (CC BY) License, which permits unrestricted use, distribution, and reproduction in any medium, provided the original work is properly cited.

  3. Author Responsibility
    Authors are responsible for ensuring that their manuscripts are original, have not been previously published, and are not under consideration by another journal.

  4. Permission and Ethical Compliance
    Any use of copyrighted material, data, or images must be properly acknowledged, and authors must obtain necessary permissions prior to submission.

  5. Archiving and Indexing
    By submitting their work, authors agree that their articles may be archived, indexed, and disseminated in databases, repositories, and indexing services to enhance visibility and academic impact.

el-Noorda: Interdisciplinary Journal of Qur'an and Hadith respects the privacy of authors, reviewers, editors, readers, and website visitors. Names and email addresses entered on this website are used for the journal-related purposes described below. The journal does not sell personal data or disclose private account information for unrelated advertising or marketing. Necessary service-provider access and the publication of author information are explained in this statement.

1. Responsibility and Scope

el-Noorda is published by the Indonesian Academy of Social and Religious Research (IASRR). This statement applies to personal data processed through the journal website, user registration, manuscript submission, peer review, editorial correspondence, and publication.

Information is generally provided directly by users. Co-author details may be supplied by a submitting author. Professional details from publicly available academic sources may also be used to identify potential reviewers, who will be informed of the relevant processing when contacted.

3. Purposes and Grounds for Processing

Personal data are used to:

  • Administer accounts and provide requested journal services.
  • Manage submissions, peer review, editorial decisions, and publication.
  • Communicate with authors, reviewers, editors, and registered readers.
  • Send publication notifications requested by subscribers.
  • Disseminate published research and bibliographic metadata.
  • Maintain security, address publication ethics concerns, and meet applicable legal obligations.

Each processing activity must have an appropriate basis under applicable law. Where consent is the basis, it will be requested separately and may be withdrawn. Merely visiting the website or submitting a manuscript does not constitute consent to unrelated processing.

4. Peer-Review Confidentiality

The journal operates a double-blind peer-review process, in which author and reviewer identities are withheld from each other during review. Editors and authorized editorial staff may access identifying information as needed to administer the process. Authors should anonymize review files and document properties as instructed.

Unpublished manuscripts, review reports, reviewer identities, and editorial correspondence are treated as confidential. Access is restricted to authorized editorial purposes, appropriately managed integrity investigations, or legal requirements. Identifiable reviewer reports and reviewer identities will not be published without a separate, explicit agreement.

5. Publication, Sharing, and International Access

Published articles normally include author names and affiliations. ORCID identifiers, funding information, contribution statements, and relevant declarations may also be published. Correspondence details intended for public display will be identified during publication preparation for authors to review.

Published articles and metadata may be distributed to registration, indexing, discovery, and preservation services used by the journal. These public records may be accessed and retained worldwide. Private account data and confidential editorial records are not included in routine public metadata distribution.

Hosting and publishing service providers may receive limited access where necessary to provide their services, subject to appropriate confidentiality and data protection arrangements. Information may also be disclosed where required by law.

6. Cookies and External Resources

The journal and its service providers are responsible for maintaining technical and organizational safeguards appropriate to the risks, including access controls and confidentiality procedures. No online system can guarantee absolute security. Suspected unauthorized access should be reported through the contact details below. Personal data breaches will be assessed and notified to affected individuals and relevant authorities where required by applicable law.

9. Your Rights and Choices

Subject to applicable law and relevant exceptions, you may request:

  • Access to your personal data and information about its use.
  • Correction of inaccurate or incomplete information.
  • Deletion or restriction of processing where applicable.
  • Objection to processing on grounds recognized by applicable law.

If a request cannot be fully granted, the reasons and available complaint options will be explained. Individuals may also complain to the competent data protection authority where applicable.

Authors must respect the privacy of research participants and other individuals mentioned in manuscripts. Unnecessary identifiers should be removed. Identifiable or sensitive information requires an appropriate lawful basis, relevant ethical approval where required, and consent for publication where necessary. Research participation consent does not automatically authorize public identification. Submitting authors should inform co-authors about the personal information supplied to the journal.

Material changes will be communicated where required, and fresh consent will be requested whenever a new processing activity requires it.
