Aims and Scope

The Journal of Islamic Microfinance and MSMEs (JIMM) is a peer-reviewed, open access journal published by The Indonesian Academy of Social & Religious Research (IASRR). The journal is dedicated to publishing original research on Islamic microfinance and the development of micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) from a sharia perspective. It welcomes empirical, conceptual, and policy-oriented studies from Indonesia and other Muslim-majority and Muslim-minority countries.

JIMM provides an academic forum for examining the relationships between Islamic financial services, enterprise empowerment, financial inclusion, and the development of MSMEs. Its scope includes the following interconnected areas:

  • Islamic microfinance institutions: Baitul Maal wat Tamwil, sharia cooperatives, and Islamic rural banks, including their roles in financing and supporting MSMEs.
  • Sharia-compliant financing and fintech for MSMEs: financing arrangements, financial products, and financial technology that support enterprise development in accordance with sharia principles.
  • Productive zakat, waqf, and Islamic social finance: the use of Islamic social finance instruments for enterprise empowerment and the development of micro and small businesses.
  • Islamic financial literacy and inclusion: knowledge, access, and participation in Islamic financial services relevant to entrepreneurs and MSMEs.
  • Halal certification and the competitiveness of halal MSMEs: the relationship between halal certification, enterprise development, and business competitiveness.
  • Muslim entrepreneurship: entrepreneurial activities and enterprise development, including pesantren-based enterprises.
  • Public policy and regulation of Islamic microfinance: policies and regulatory frameworks affecting Islamic microfinance institutions, sharia-compliant financing, and MSME development.

The journal welcomes contributions that advance understanding of these subjects through rigorous empirical inquiry, conceptual analysis, or policy-oriented research. Submissions should demonstrate a clear connection to Islamic microfinance or MSME development from a sharia perspective and offer an identifiable scholarly contribution to the journal’s fields of interest.
